Class Registration

Students should meet with their assigned academic advisor to be released for registration.

Registration Tips

When contacted by email, make an appointment with your advisor for course advising and release.

Do not wait to schedule your advising appointment and add the appointment to your calendar! Make sure the appointment is not during a class.

Meet with Your Advisor

Be on time to meet with your advisor, and bring your prepared materials. During the meeting, you will be released for registration. This is required for you to register for classes.

Tip: Ask your advisor about how to get involved in research, internships and co-ops.

Complete the Registration Checklist

The Registration Checklist is in Banner and must be completed each semester prior to registration.

Your checklist will tell you your registration timeslot and if you have any holds.

Tip: Do not wait until your registration day! You can do this early.

Clear Holds on Your Student Account

Work on holds as soon as possible. Your advisor cannot clear these holds, but can help you figure out the right person to contact.

A hold will prevent you from registering for classes.

Common holds are placed by: Account Services, Center for America’s Veterans, Admissions, and Dean of Students.

Create a Registration Plan Ahead

The Plan Ahead tool helps you create a drafted schedule that you can use on your registration date. You can create more than one plan.

The plan does not reserve you a seat in a class.

Tip: Remember to refine your search to the Starkville campus to avoid error messages for campus restrictions.

Plan Ahead
Register on Your Assigned Date/Time

The Registrar’s Office assigns each student a registration date/time. You will find this in Student360, your registration release email, and on your registration checklist.

Tip: Put this date/time on your calendar, as this is when your registration opens. You have until the 5th day of class in the next semester to make changes to your schedule.
