Center for Advising Navigators

Freshman Year Navigators are MSU students who work in the Center for Advising and are assigned to a group of incoming freshmen each fall based on advisor assignment. Throughout the academic year, Navigators help their students navigate their first year at MSU by answering questions, connecting them to campus resources, and supporting their overall success.

Navigators build relationships with their students by reaching out regularly through text, email, phone calls, and face-to-face meetings, including study sessions. They work to motivate students, help them develop academic and time management plans, and create a sense of belonging by sharing their own college experiences and offering support as students face challenges.

Navigators work closely with an advisor in the Center for Advising, meeting weekly for guidance and support, and maintain office hours in the Center for Advising to provide additional opportunities for in-person meetings. This position serves as a student leadership opportunity on campus, with applications opening each March. For questions about Freshman Year Navigators, contact Maxine Krol.
